I’m sure most everyone has heard of Goodwill before. Today I want to talk about another Goodwill Store, The Goodwill Clearance Center. It’s not your typical Goodwill in that, most everything is sold by the pound. The furniture is a fixed price with a tag located on the item.
Items that you find at the Goodwill Clearance Center are mostly items that didn’t sell within a certain amount of time at the main stores. They have a color system at the main stores that allows them to keep track of when items are donated and how long they have been in the store. At the end of the week the items coded with the color of the week that didn’t sell get sent to the clearance center. I have also found multiple items that I’m sure where donated directly to the clearance center.
Items at the clearance center are placed in certain bins and clothing is put together and household items are put together. They also have different bins for books and media.
I’m not going to lie and say this way of shopping is for everyone, but the savings are extreme compared to regular Goodwill. The price per pound at my local clearance center is as follows:
Clothes and Household Items: $1.39 lb
Media and Books: .25 cents lb
My Goodwill also has different days that they have half off. Not all stores have this, so you will have to check with your Goodwill Center.
The pros of shopping are of course price. I also love the element of surprise. You never know what you will be able to find. This is some pictures of items that I have been able to find. The most exciting find for me has to be the Nine West Pocket Book with the tags still attached!
The cons are that it is a lot of work digging for the items. It also isn’t sorted by size or style. Every type of clothing is together Men’s, Women’s, and Children’s . They do have a separate bin for shoes. A lot of times the shoes are not together so you have to dig for your pair.
All in all I definitely recommend going if you haven’t been to a Goodwill Clearance Center before. Our family has become accustom to going on half off days we are able to find most of our books and clothing at the clearance center.
What are your experiences with Goodwill? Have you ever been to a clearance center?
